GCCA Launching Athletic Program in 2020-2021!
As a Christian academy that desires to reflect the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ in all of its programming and to offer students a holistic learning experience founded on Scripture, we are pleased to announce that we will be launching an athletics program beginning in Fall 2020. We do not seek to become a school that gives the brain priority over the body, or vice versa. Rather, we want to grow as a biblically balanced school which understands that God requires both mind and body to be in full submission to his lordship (see Deut 6:5; 1 Cor 9:24-27).
We intend to teach athletics much like we would teach any subject—in a way that helps the students understand more about God, man, sin, and salvation. The goal of our athletics program would be discipleship: to maximize the opportunities afforded by competition (e.g., diligence; endurance; failure; victory; strategy; camaraderie; cooperation; and more) to train both mind and body for the work of Christ’s kingdom. The parallels between athletics and “fighting the good fight of faith” are so perceptible that the apostle Paul frequently drew upon them to bring encouragement to believers (see Phil 3:13-14; 1 Tim 4:8).
On December 16, 2019, GCCA was approved by the CSAF, Inc. Board of Directors to join CSAF (Christian Schools Athletic Fellowship). Beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year, we plan to introduce one sport per gender for grades 6-10 during the Fall semester (either cross country, football, volleyball, soccer, or basketball) and another sport in the Spring semester (either track, baseball, golf, or tennis). If necessary, we will supplement our roster with students from likeminded homeschool families.
More information on the specifics of our athletic program will be forthcoming. In the meantime, we would appreciate your prayers for this exciting development!
Pro Christo,
